Radiation Therapy: A Summary for the Breast MDT has been developed by the ASBD to provide multidisciplinary medical professionals working with breast cancer patients:
• a relevant educational opportunity to understand the concepts and terminology of radiation therapy treatment• a better understanding of patient selection, side effects and the latest in radiation therapy treatment• and to achieve better patient care by creating a resource for the MDT members to better appreciate radiation therapy as a treatment for breast cancer.

A/Prof Kirsty Stuart
A/Prof Kirsty Stuart is a Consultant Radiation Oncologist, specialising in breast cancer since 2005.After her Radiation Oncology specialty training at Prince of Wales and Liverpool Hospitals in Sydney, she completed a Breast Cancer Fellowship at the Westmead Breast Cancer Institute.
A/Prof Stuart completed her PhD in 2015 on Ductal Carcinoma in Situ and Early Breast Cancer Management. Her research continues in conjunction with the Trans-Tasman Radiation Oncology Group (TROG), the Westmead Breast Cancer Institute, the Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre – Westmead Hospital, the Westmead Institute for Medical Research and the University of Sydney. Currently she is Chief Investigator of a TROG Trial (Skagen TROG TD17.07) investigating radiation delivery methods for women with breast cancer with a high risk of local recurrence, collaborating with the Danish Breast Cancer Co-operative Group.
Since 2016, A/Prof Stuart has held the position of Cochrane Breast Cancer Group Editor (International Panel). She is the Chair of the Ductal Carcinoma in Situ Working Group and is on the Executive Committee for the Breast Interest Group – Faculty of Radiation Oncology, Australia.
A/Prof Stuart is a senior staff specialist in Radiation Oncology at Northern Beaches Cancer Care in Frenchs Forest, the Westmead Breast Cancer Institute and Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre at Westmead Hospital. She is particularly motivated by the recent evolution of breast radiation therapy improvements in breast radiation therapy: inverse planning intensity modulated radiation therapy, volumetric modulated arc therapy planning and treatment, cone beam CT for evaluation of accuracy, hypofractionation, and 4D planning (deep inspiration breath-hold techniques).
She is caring and compassionate, always striving for the optimal patient outcome.
